The Baronial House of Hamelin, is a noble family that was officially founded in 1811 by Emperor Napoleon I of France, to award Contre-Amiral Jaques Félix Emmanuel Hamelin. The history of the Baronial House, dates back even further to 1677 (though due to French Salic Law, this does not constitute the birth of the Baronial House due to the title falling to a female), when Edmond de La Garde, brother of Baron Jean de La Garde, baron de Maure, married Adelaide Hamelin, a distant relative of the Baronial House. In 1671, brothers and future-noblemen, Louis and Francois Hamelin (direct relations to the current Baron), set off to make their mark and brought the family to Nouvelle-France (Canada). The brothers did very well for themselves, bought some land, and became the Seigneurs de Grondines.
Over the generations, the Baronial House of Hamelin has maintained its status as a respected noble family, evident by the Baronial Family's rich history and commitment to service. It has worked to preserve its traditions and heritage, passing down the values that have shaped its identity from generation to generation.
Today, the Baronial House of Hamelin continues to exist as a noble institution recognized by the French and Canadian governments as well as the Spanish Crown. Its members are involved in various philanthropic and cultural activities, perpetuating their familial tradition of supporting entrepreneurship and the military.
The Baronial House embodies a unique blend of French and Canadian heritage. Its history exemplifies the importance of pride, honour, and commitment to service. As a noble house, it continues to play an active role in the life of France and Canada working to preserve the historical heritage of both.
